Featured Project – International Spy Museum
With its completion due in 2018, The International Spy Museum will make its new home in the Southwest quadrant of Washington, DC and establish itself as a brilliant cultural resource at L’Enfant Plaza. The general contractor for this milestone project is Clark Construction and The JBG Companies owners. The new Spy Museum will provide more than double the floor space that of the existing F street NW location, with 140,000-square-feet and provide more than enough room for educational and entertainment programming. On this project Blackwood of DC poured more than 1000 CY over slab on metal deck across 9 level floors including roof work. In addition, were topping slab, pan-steps, column jackets, footing enhancements and parking garage renovation work.
Brookland Middle School
The only arts and languages middle school campus of its kind located at 1150 Michigan Ave NE. With SKANSKA as the general contractor, Brookland Middle School was completed in the Fall of 2015. Blackwood of DC completed the concrete structure on an accelerated schedule to become one of the fastest constructed schools from the ground up!
Cardozo HS
Known as “the castle on the hill”, Cardozo’s iconic building was designed by architect William B. Ittner in 1928 and subsequently renovated in December 2011. With Sigal as the general contractor, Blackwood of DC handled renovations including a new gym with high school basketball court dimensions, below grade, with a parking structure on the roof. Concrete work included 5000 CY MAT pour completed in 3 weekends! Many thanks to Aggregate Industries for excellent concrete service and Andrews Pumping for providing continuous pumping services with no interruptions. Similarly, many thanks to United Crane for providing exceptional crane support!
Dulles Multi-Purpose South
Located in Loudoun County, VA, the Dulles South Multipurpose Center offers a variety of licensed preschool classes, full-day childcare, before and after-school programs, four outdoor community pools, dog park and basketball & baseball fields with Senior Center. With Forrester as the general contractor, Blackwood of DC completed all the concrete work for the four swimming pools on location.
The Oronoco
Brand new construction overlooking Oronoco Park and the Potomac River, The Oronoco is a luxury boutique building with 60 residences with each unit featuring outdoor space from terraces to balconies and private roof terraces. Blackwood of DC handled concrete work that included extensive renovation and floor work to convert existing structure into a residential facility. With Davis as the general contractor, Blackwood of DC’s involvement in this venture was completed within schedule and collaboratively with all other subcontractors.
