1400 Crystal Drive
Minutes from Reagan National Airport, the Pentagon, Downtown D.C. and Capitol Hill, 1400 Crystal provides convenient proximity to all major metropolitan roadways. Blackwood of DC’s 1400 Crystal Drive garage reconfiguration project was a state-of-the-art, Class “A”, building repositioning initiative for office space. With Whiting-Turner as the general contractor and boasting a massive 308,898-square-feet, Blackwood of DC’s involvement with this project included reconfiguration of garage ramps and columns as well as roof top work and squaring of the building.
Ballou Sr HS Field + Site Improvement
Located in Washington, DC’s Ward 8, Ballou is known for having one of the best choirs, bands and football teams in the District. Kadcon was named as the general contractor and the project was completed in August of 2016. The project includes design and construction of concrete stadium facility in conjunction with the new turf field.
Duke Ellington
The Duke Ellington School of the Arts, located in Ward 2, underwent a modernization to match the school’s reputation and accommodate its growing needs. Upgrading the building included a concentration on balancing, restoring and respecting the historic character of the original buildings. Blackwood placed approximately 10,000 CY of concrete including a new MAT foundation supporting the new building structure, the terraced slab on metal deck at the theatre, and the site concrete. With new contemporary construction woven in and around the restored historic building to accommodate the large studios, performance and rehearsal spaces, the building design completes its modernization with spectacular views across the city.
Watergate Hotel
Synonymous with the country’s biggest political scandal, The Watergate Hotel has been renovated time and again but no one embraced its original design, until now. With Grunley being designated as the general contractor, Blackwood of DC handled all the concrete structural upgrades to include footings, columns and wall enhancements. New elevator pits were installed in building as well as a new outdoor terrace.
